Introduction to Pre-Masters Programme

The NCUK Pre-Masters Programme (PMP) is designed to prepare non-native English speaking university graduates for study on specified courses at Masters level at one of SBC partner NCUK universities. Students receive a conditional offer for their programme at a partner university with the condition being successful completion of the PMP.

The programme follows the NCUK syllabus and framework and focuses on the following areas:

  •  Development of proficiency in the use of English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
  •  Research Methods
  •  Orientation to Western Study
  •  The promotion of independent learning skills and the development of relevant study skills within a subject context
  •  Study skills include: planning a research project; taking notes in lectures; seminars and tutorial discussion skills;  group work.

Students can enter the programme at three different entry points: Routes A, B or C (see below). depending on their language proficiency and previous education as shown below.

Route Selection

•    Route A is 30 weeks in length (three terms) and is designed for: students who have three-year diplomas, work           experience and a level of English language proficiency of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent; four-year graduates, or final year   undergraduates on a four year programme, with a level of English language proficiency of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent.

•    Route B is 20 weeks in length (two terms) and is designed for: four-year graduates, or final year undergraduates on a four-year programme, with a level of English language proficiency of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent; three-year diploma holders whose level of English language proficiency is IELTS 5.5 or equivalent.

•    Route C is 10 weeks in length (one term) and is designed for four-year graduates whose level of English language proficiency is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

What is the NCUK Guarantee?

Once accepted on the qualification, only NCUK can guarantee you a place on a postgraduate degree at one of our NCUK university partners. Please note that the guarantee does not mean that a candidate is guaranteed to proceed to the university that may be their first choice, but it does mean that a place is guaranteed at one of the nine partner universities, subject to successful completion of the PMP.

Unlike other preparation courses, the PMP leads on to thousands of postgraduate degrees in all subject areas from Art to Engineering, Life Sciences to Theatre Design, Business and Finance to Marketing.
