Congratulations to the University of Huddersfield – Winner of the Global Teaching Excellence Award 2017

9/7/2017

The Global Teaching Excellence Award (GTEA) is organised by the UK-based Higher Education Academy (HEA). In 2017, entries were received from around the world.  In July, it was announced that The University of Huddersfield had been shortlisted, alongside 26 other finalists from countries that included Australia, Switzerland, Canada, South Africa and The Netherlands.  Several other British institutions also reached the final, including SBC partners the University of Salford and Leeds Beckett University.

On the 4th of September, it was announced that The University of Huddersfield had been chosen as the overall winner. Its GTEA was accepted by Professor Bob Cryan, who expressed his delight at the latest honour and which comes as he celebrates his tenth anniversary as the University’s Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Bob Cryan said: “I am absolutely thrilled and proud that the University of Huddersfield has won this award.”

“Over the past ten years we have worked incredibly hard to build a student experience that is second to none. Winning GTEA is a huge tribute to the leadership team, our staff and our students, all of whom have formed an incredible partnership to make our University and its teaching so very special.”

The GTEA entry also emphasised factors such as the outstanding levels of academic support offered to students, the valuable work experience that is available plus an international strategy that creates extensive opportunities for overseas collaboration.

Professor John Wilson, Principal and CEO of SBC, said: “On behalf of everyone at SBC, sincere congratulations to Professor Bob Cryan and all his colleagues and students on this outstanding achievement. We are very proud to be a long-standing partner of the University, the global reputation of which will be further enhanced by this award. I am sure everyone associated with the University’s Events Management programme offered at SBC will be particularly pleased.  I would also like to congratulate our partners the University of Salford and Leeds Beckett University on being shortlisted”.
